Surrounding Communities North of Truckee
Sierra County, Calpine, Sierraville, Sattley, Loyalton, Plumas County, Whitehawk Ranch, Gold Mountain, Emigrant Gap, Grizzly Ranch
These communities are located north of Truckee and can be accessed from Truckee via Hwy 89 North. As you drive out Hwy 89 North from Truckee you arrive in the Sierra Valley, the largest high mountain valley in North America. The area was settled in the late 1800’s.
Sierraville is one of the communities in this area and is approximately 25 miles from Truckee. If you continue along Highway 89/49 in a Northwest direction, you will arrive in the very small community of Sattley. Continuing North on Highway 89 are the communities of Calpine and later Clio, Graeagle, Whitehawk Ranch, and Gold Mountain. Many of these communities are considered “horse friendly” and many fine golf courses are in located in this area.
Surrounding Communities Towards Reno
Floriston, Hirschdale, Verdi – California Located east of Truckee along the banks of the Truckee River and I-80 towards Reno, these communities are older communities that developed as a result of the lumber and paper mill industries along the river.
Floriston is a small subdivision approximately 15 miles east of Truckee in the valley along the Truckee River. It is a community that developed at the turn of the 20th century to house paper mill workers. Many of the “company” homes from that era are still there today.
Verdi, California is located approximately 21 miles east of Truckee, along I-80 and the banks of the Truckee River. Verdi is a small community that is partly in the state of California and partly in the state of Nevada.
The area is sometimes considered part of the Reno, Nevada metro area because it is approximately 10 miles west of Reno.
