This area is located in a valley with steep mountains on both sides. The Alpine Meadows downhill ski area is tucked back in this valley and is known for testing the talent of the Extreme Skiers and Snowboarders in the world. The ski area also offers variable terrain catering to all levels of expertise. Although somewhat smaller than Squaw Valley the mountain is great fun, un-crowded, and always seems to attract the friendly types. There are single family homes in a lovely small residential community right off of Alpine Meadows Road. And, there are some condos in the valley near the ski area. There are also condos near the River Ranch at Hwy 89 South and Alpine Meadows Road. The residents in the valley enjoy the bonus of quiet solitude among the forest and mountains in the summer.
